What is The FARP?

Yeah, we know. Weird name. It’ll grow on you. Maybe.

The Family Adventure Resources Project or The FARP is for adventurous families and those that want to be. It’s for the families already pitching tents in the rain, paddling before breakfast, and saying yes to more miles on the trail—and it’s also for the ones standing at the edge, curious, a little unsure, but ready to try. It recognizes that adventure isn’t about having the best gear (although, collecting gear can be joyous) or the most experience; it’s about the willingness to step outside the routine, embrace a bit of messy, and discover what happens when you do something new together. Whether your idea of adventure is a multi-day expedition or simply eating dinner outside and calling it a win, we are reminded that adventure starts the moment you decide to show up and give it a go.

At its core, The FARP is about shared experiences. Studies (and common sense) show that families who spend quality time together—especially time that involves exploration, play, and the occasional mild discomfort—build stronger bonds, communicate better, and create memories that outlast any streaming subscription. We hope to make those experiences easier to plan, less intimidating, and far more fun.

Adventure Doesn’t Always Equal Camping

Not every adventure requires airline tickets, the latest gear (we repeat, collecting gear can be joyous), or a 147-item packing checklist. Sometimes it’s a local park, throwing a frisbee, flying a kite (more on frisbees and kites later), or a backyard challenge that somehow becomes more competitive than expected. We have ideas. The goal is to help families turn ordinary moments into memorable adventures—ones that spark curiosity, teamwork, laughter, and at least one “remember when…” story.

All About the Stories

Long after the gear is packed away and the photos are posted, what remains are the stories families tell and retell—usually getting more dramatic each time. The FARP is built on the belief that memories made together, especially those tied to exploration and discovery, become part of a family’s identity. These are the moments kids remember and adults look back on and think, “We should really do that again.”

Not a Rulebook

Every family is different. This project isn’t about doing things perfectly or checking boxes. It’s about offering flexible resources families can adapt to their own style, location, and comfort level. Whether your idea of adventure is a quiet nature walk or something that leaves everyone tired and happy, The FARP is here to help.
