Joe Wheeler State Park, located on the shores of Wheeler Lake in northwest Alabama, is one of the state’s 6 resort parks. The resort has 2,550 acres and a huge waterfront lodge with a restaurant and convention center, an 18-hole golf course and clubhouse, cottages, cabins, and a full-service marina with permanent and overnight docking slips. But we’re here for adventure and for that the park offers fishing, boating (rentals available for pontoons, fishing, kayaks and paddle boats), RV and primitive camping, a disc golf course, hiking and mountain biking.

Majestic Caverns, located in Childersburg, Alabama, has one of the largest accumulations of gem stone quality onyx in North America. There are guided tours of the caverns every hour and includes a walk through their Healing-All Cathedral room, the onyx room, a back passageway to a natural waterfall, and a underground laser light and water show. The other features at Majestic Caverns include a campground with full hook ups, forge demonstrations, magic & juggling shows, a park train, a maze, gemstone panning, putt putt, a climbing wall, bow & arrows, and more.
