Frank Jackson State Park, located near Opp, Alabama, has 2,050 acres and it’s main attraction is 1,000 acre Lake Frank Jackson (not to be confused with another Lake Jackson, just south of here on the Alabama/Florida line). Fishing, as you might guess, is a predominate activity at the park along with hiking, camping (32 full hook-up sites and 8 primitive sites), swimming, boating, canoeing, kayaking, and picnicking. One of the interesting features of the hiking opportunities is a pedestrian bridge leading to an island on the lake that has two hiking trails.

Gulf State Park, located in Gulf Shores, Alabama, is the perfect place for a getaway adventure to the beach. It features two miles of beaches, a huge campground (496 full hook-up sites and 11 bath houses) and a brand new lodge (a Hilton Hotel). Things to do include hiking, biking, swimming (in the ocean or in a pool), canoeing & kayaking (in freshwater Lake Shelby), a nature center, a beach pavilion for picnicking, a fishing pier, and they even provide beach vendors for things like parasailing and kayaking. Besides the campground and lodge, the park’s accommodations also offer cabins, cottages, 3 “glamping” sites and 11 primitive camping sites.

Lakepoint State Park, located on the banks of the 45,000-acre Lake Eufaula in southeast Alabama, is one of the state’s 6 resort parks. Accommodations include the Lakepoint Resort Lodge and Convention Center with 101 hotel rooms, 29 cabins and 10 lakeside cottages. The campground has 192 improved campsites for both RV’s and tents. There’s a marina, hiking trails, a swimming complex, an archery park, tennis courts and playgrounds.

Monte Sano State Park is a serene mountain top park located near Huntsville, Alabama. Within it’s 2000+ acres are 14 rustic rental cabins, 89 campsites, a primitive campground, a beautifully restored lodge (an event venue, no accommodations), an amphitheater, a disc golf course, picnic tables, hiking & biking trails, and several playgrounds.

Located in Blountsville, Alabama, Spring Valley Beach Waterpark is a “must visit” destination in Alabama. First of all, you’ll ask yourself “What is a waterpark doing way out here?” You have to see it to believe it. What started out with a couple of slides on the side of a hill has grown into a “charming, one-of-a-kind” waterpark. Spring Valley Beach has 25 acres and there are more than 20 pavilion areas (rentable), 10 waterslides, the southeast’s largest pool (2 acres, it’s huge), and an expansive kid’s water playground.
